Methods
Micro Weft – This is a quick method which gives your clients hair length and thickness. These can last for up to 3 months depending on your clients hair growth and are simple to remove from the hair.Once the weft has been measured it is secured by using small metal rings using a tool that clamps the weft securely in the natural hair.
Micro Wefts can alter one’s appearance for long or short periods of time by adding further hair to one’s natural hair.
Micro Loop – Micro rings or micro loop hair extensions use small metal rings lined with silicone with the extension hair attached. They are fixed to small sections of natural hair and tightened using a special tool that clamps the loop around the natural hair.
The micro loops are designed to be small enough so that they are not visible in normal use. They need repositioning every 2–3 months as the natural hair grows and the micro rings move away from the scalp.
As they do not use heat or adhesives, these hair extensions should cause less damage than some types.Micro Loops add additional human or synthetic pieces which can enhance one’s hair by giving it volume, length and adding colour without the damage of chemicals or adopting a different hair texture than that of their own.
Weave – A hair weave is human or artificial hair utilized for the integration with one’s natural hair. This is a system where wefts of fibre or real extension hair are sewn on to the scalp plaits called cornrows or cornbraids using a curved needle and thread. This method originated from African Caribbean hairdressing and has been used by this ethnic group for hundreds of years.
Weaves can alter one’s appearance for long or short periods of time by adding further hair to one’s natural hair. Weaving additional human or synthetic pieces can enhance one’s hair by giving it volume, length and adding colour without the damage of chemicals or adopting a different hair texture than that of their own.
Pre – Bonded – Also known as Hot System, this method is by far the most commercial and widely used extension system in the UK. It relies on heated tools that melt the polymer resin or synthetic fibres creating hard bonds which attach the extensions at the root area of the natural hair.
This system is most suitable for use on Caucasian, Asian or Oriental hair types as it enables an extension practitioner to apply individual strands of extension hair, thus allowing the finished hairstyle to be free-flowing. This gives an authentic natural look.
